Located on the coast in Southern California, I am fortunate to have endless opportunities to provide my dogs an active lifestyle. My dogs are my pets and live in my house as part of my family. Although they compete in conformation, agility and many other events, they also enjoy simply lying around the house and being with me. I am preservation and purposeful breeder. My dogs are bred for their instinct, breed type, health and predictability as border collies. It is important to me that each puppy I bring into this world is healthy and well socialized. I feel I have a responsibility to each of my puppies and each litter is bred with thoughtfulness and purpose. This purpose is to produce healthy Border Collies with correct structure, movement and a lovely temperament that allow them thrive in nearly any home. Breeding for me is not a means of financial gain. I breed for quality and a commitment to preserve the integrity of this wonderful breed. All of my dogs are fed a top quality diet and I do my best to avoid the over use of antibiotics and other drugs. My dogs are routinely seen by my vet, and kept disease and parasite free. I health test all my dogs for genetic disease PRIOR to them being bred. All dogs are hip certified with the Orthopedic Foundation of America (OFA). In addition, my dogs are DNA tested with a high level Canine DNA lab (Optigen, Pawprints or Embark) for the genetic disorders that can affect the Border Collie such as CEA, CL, MDR1 and TNS.
I purchased my first Border Collie from Robyn Powley (Darkwind Border Collies) in the mid 1990's and completely fell in love with the breed. Her name was CH Darkwind Sun Spell "Belle" she was beautiful, smart and kind. She went everywhere with me and was loved by everyone she met. I showed her to her conformation championship, earned her CGC and did herding and agility. In 1996, I found a lovely male Border Collie from working lines that I thought would be a nice cross which led me to breed my first litters. All of the puppies carried her wonderful structure and disposition with a bit more drive. Several of these puppies went on to earn their conformation championships, and titles in herding and agility under my original kennel prefix "Wind Dancer". When I lost Belle's last puppy at the age of 16, I purchased a lovely bitch from Frank Baylis (Bayshore Kennels). She had big shoes to fill and I think she knew it. She never ceases to amaze me and has become a foundation bitch for Shorewind. In 2013, I decided to change my kennel name to "Shorewind", in respect to the two breeders (Darkwind & Bayshore) who gave me my start and for who I will be forever grateful.
This breed will win your heart with their intelligence, devotion and character.
